The local indigenous tribe says that the Río Celeste (Blue River) got its color when
God washed his brush after painting the sky. Such magic tale is the perfect way to
describe the beauty of this river in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. We take you
in a comfortable car for about one hour and a half along lowlands around the Arenal
area. Once in the place we start the 3 hours hike visiting its main attractions: The
impressive Blue Waterfall, next the Borbollones with amazing bubbling water coming
out from the ground, then the Blue Lagoon which is the most peaceful landscape of
the area, here a calm river breach with majestic bright blue water looks like a natural
pool surrounded by the dense rainforest, finally, the Teñideros section at the end of
the trail is where two rivers come together and the blue water appears. The Rio
Celeste area is very known because of the population of central american tapir that
luckily can be found crossing the trails of the National Park. After this 7-kilometer
hike we will visit a local restaurant for having a delicious lunch and start back our trip
to your hotel near the Arenal Volcano.
